Review: Dear Rockstar by Emme Rollins

Dear Rockstar (Dear Rockstar, #1)Dear Rockstar by Emme Rollins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Let me just preface this with saying that I grew up in the 80s and still love 80s music to this day. Okay... on with the review.

The book is told in Sara's POV in 80s Jersey. She loves Art and a rock god. Dale is an up and coming musician who moves to Jersey from the west coast and ends up in the same school as Sara. Sara and Dale are strangers when they meet up in an alternative school due to other circumstances that happen in their separate pasts. Dale ends up sitting next to her in one of their classes and feeds her Skittles - SKITTLES - um... adorable.

Sara manages to keep her home life from her friends and from Dale for the most part all while falling in love with Dale. Dale has his own issues stemming from his mother having an affair that had been going on for years.

Dale is the protective, encouraging boyfriend.

When truths come out about Sara's home life, Dale and his father step in but when opportunity comes for her on the same day as Dale's big performance, does she stand by her man or go off on her own?

This book had me enthralled as you don't really know why Sara is going to the alternate school until the book is nearly over. You get a sense of her fears and yet you see just how strong she truly is. With and Without Dale in her life.

Dale may have his issues, but with a positive father that keeps him grounded, he doesn't get too cocky.

Now, I've just learned there's a sequel to this book so now I need to get another Amazon Kindle gift card so I can get it and read it.

If you are looking for a book that doesn't have angst or sex, this isn't it. There isn't alot of sex in here, but it's there.
